'Wii Sports' Wins Six BAFTA Awards
October 25, 2007
The awards show for the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) is one of the entertainment industry’s most prestigious annual events. The BAFTAs honor achievements in film, television, and interactive media; the organization added awards for outstanding game production in 1998.
2007 was a huge year for the gaming industry. With Microsoft, Nintendo, and Sony trying to outdo each other for your gaming dollar, a number of high-profile games walked away with awards at this year’s event.
The big winner in the gaming categories was Nintendo’s Wii Sports, which comes free with each Nintendo Wii system. Going up against such popular titles as Lost Planet, Heavenly Sword, and Resistance: Fall of Man, the game topped six award categories including Gameplay, Innovation, and Strategy.
Other notable honorees at this year’s BAFTAs included the visually stunning first-person shooter BioShock, as well Crackdown, God of War 2, and the cult-favorite Playstation 2 game Okami.
