More than any other industry, the entertainment business offers the potential for many different kinds of creative entrepreneurial career opportunities.
In Hollywood, the Line Producer manages a motion picture’s budget to keep investors out of the red. They will often also manage the day-to-day physical aspects of a production; they’re also responsible for hiring key crewmembers and negotiating deals with the onset vendors.
Creative Services Managers use their artistic eye and administrative skills to oversee artists, copywriters, and the production staff that creates artwork for print media, merchandise, websites, games, film, television, video, and live events, making sure that deadlines are met and that the client is satisfied with the end result.
In the world of music, an album’s Executive Producer plays a key role in the production process. While they don’t necessarily handle any of the technical aspects of the recording, they do work to obtain financing for the project, allocate the budget, and will often offer some input as to the direction and/or sequencing of the album.
The Executive Producer’s television counterpart is often referred to as the Show Runner, a position that guides the overall creative progress of a show’s story throughout the season. Many creative decisions, such as casting, location, and script revision choices, get the final approval from the Show Runner. Most television shows are able to get off the ground with the help of the Head of Development, who manages a team of development associates as they take show concepts and transform them into workable projects that can be pitched to television networks.
As Project Manager at Technomedia Solutions, Entertainment Business graduate Kristin Wemlinger’s job is to steer and supervise the direction of the audio/visual components for theme park attractions, clubs, live venues, resorts, cruise lines, and more, with a client list that includes Hard Rock and Universal Studios.
