CAREERS

Graphic Design Careers

The demand for talented graphic designers stretches across every industry – from traditional art and illustration needs to developing websites and branding for large corporations.

Some artists choose to take their love of design into the print industry, where there are a number of careers that apply both traditional art skills and the latest digital publishing software. These positions include Print Media Designer, an artist who creates engaging layouts that communicate a product or service message for multiple forms of tactile media, including newspapers, magazines, and posters.

Graphic designers may also be interested in other print-related careers, including Cover Designer. This artist designs and arranges the layout of a publication, book, or piece of marketing material to appeal to specific consumer markets. There’s also a Package Designer, whose job is to design product packaging that balances various criteria including storage capacity, shipping needs, and aesthetic appeal.

Many other graphic design careers demand both creative and technical prowess. This is best seen in the role of a Multimedia Artist, who creates digital art, graphic design, animated images, or special effects for a variety of media productions including movies, television shows, and computer games.

Motion Graphics Artists also bring together a number of forms of media, as they handle compositing, design, and animation for television commercials, movie titles, and Flash-based web content.

The Internet is opening up even more opportunities for quality graphic design, and features positions like Web Graphic Designers, the artists responsible for the concept, art style, and layout of a website. There’s also the Interface Designer, who specializes in enhancing the user experience on these websites by integrating intuitive design aesthetics and functionality with the communication and service needs of a company.

Danielle produced a wide range of projects at Skechers, working with a team of four other web developers as they focus on creating online advertising, a massive revamping of the company’s website, and even some print projects.
