We’re at an age where every company and organization needs an engaging web presence in order to be competitive in their respective field, which makes the field of web content development full of diverse career choices. Professional developers cover a number of different roles in the industry, from the layout and visual design of a website, to the back end structure that they are built on.
On the graphic development side, you’ll find important positions like Interface Designer, the person who is responsible for creating website applications with a focus on interaction and an intuitive user experience. There are also Web Designers and Content Developers, positions responsible for the art style and layout of a website, as well as the researching, writing, and editing of text for online publication.
Some of the more technical web design positions include titles like Database Engineer, who is responsible for finding more efficient ways to organize and store website data so that pages can load faster. There are also roles like a Dynamic Application Developer, who produces and designs the applications that run the higher-level functions of a site, including content searches, shopping carts, and password-protected areas.
Streaming video, motion graphics, and gaming are also a huge component of the public’s online experience, and careers like Flash Animator and Flash Application Developer combine both the creative and the technical – using the powerful Adobe Flash software to design and animate video and game content. These technicians also handle the coding and integration of Flash applications to these sites, and determine the user’s level of interactivity with them.
Also important to the industry are the corporate and analytical roles, such as SEO Strategists, who are responsible for improving the volume and quality of traffic to a website from search engine results. Also prominent are Web Project Managers, who act as a liason between the web design teams and the business owners, translating a creative concept into an effective business model, and overseeing the project’s development.
Full Sail graduate Jason Williams has found success in this area as a Senior Web Designer for the Paquin Group. His role includes working with different companies to build retail outlets and develop their online resources – including designing e-commerce sites that manage hundreds of thousands of products and services.
In his role as Interactive Developer at Grow Interactive, grad Jeff Penano is blending art and technology. His job finds him working closely with a team of artists to balance their designs with the functional needs of a website.
