Monday's excitement surrounding the Hall of Fame ceremony and the grand opening of the Full Sail Studios Gateway project continued into the afternoon as 2010 Hall of Fame Inductee Martin "Tike" Santos hosted an on-campus discussion for students and staff.
Always a great friend and resource to Full Sail University, Martin spoke at Full Sail Live 1 about his extensive career, and even shared insight into some of his first gigs after graduation—one that included be hired to do studio installations in Vermont.
With more than 16 years on the road with concert tours, Martin has served as a Live Sound Engineer/Technician for high-profile known artists including Peter Frampton, Faith Hill, and Paul McCartney.
While some might be inspired by the pyrotechnic or other visual aspects of events, Martin knew early on that he wanted to pursue a career behind-the-scenes in the production magic.
"I didn’t want to visit Oz; I wanted to see what was going on behind the mirror," Martin says.
He also discussed his inspirations, what it takes to succeed, industry terminology and careers, and provided visuals to showcase how much work is involved in the production set-up and takedown processes.
Martin wrapped the event up by opening the floor for a Q&A session with the audience. He left everyone with some final thoughts:
"What you do in the first year [after graduation could] bear directly on the rest of your future…make good alliances. It’s a social business."
