Hollywood's 2014 'Godzilla' reboot featured work from seven graduates.

‘Godzilla’ Returns with Help from Alumni 2014's summer hit 'Godzilla'

The Godzilla franchise has seen over 30 releases since its Japanese debut, but has been relatively quiet in the U.S. following 1998′s self-titled entry. This summer Hollywood is bringing the long-dormant monster back to theaters with Godzilla, a fresh take on the origin story directed by Gareth Edwards and starring Bryan Cranston, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Elizabeth Olsen.

Far removed from the days of rubber lizard suits and puppets on wires, the trailers reveal the impressive technical efforts that went into updating the classic series for contemporary audiences. Among the talent helping define Godzilla for 2014 were seven Full Sail graduates – six of whom had their hands on the visual effects.

•    Sarah Davis (Computer Animation, 2012; Stereoscopic Compositor)
•    Matthew E. Gill (Computer Animation, 2010; Stereoscopic Production Coordinator)
•    Felix Jorge (Computer Animation, 2006; Previsualization Artist)
•    Pravin Mahtani (Computer Animation, 2012; Stereoscopic Compositor)
•    Nancy Nugent (Recording Arts, 1999; Supervising Dialogue & ADR Editor)
•    Lyndsey Pendley (Computer Animation, 2010; Stereoscopic Paint Artist)
•    Marvin Yanez (Computer Animation, 2008; Stereoscopic Roto Lead)

This is the first of a few potential summer blockbusters that Computer Animation graduate Sarah Davis worked on this year, with her contributing to other upcoming releases like X-Men: Days of Future Past and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. For Godzilla, Sarah’s role as stereoscopic compositor had her working in the paint department at Stereo D on cleanplate object removal, stereo painting, and stereo comps – work that she’s excited to finally have in front of audiences.

“I am so happy to be able to add Godzilla to my resume, it was an incredible experience and from what I’ve seen the film is going to be outstanding,” she says. “Having the chance to work on such awesome footage is something I will never forget. The director himself even stopped by the studio and spoke with us, making the film that much more exciting to be a part of. I couldn’t be prouder to have my name attached.”
