“Web Design & Development Social” – wddsocial.com – is an online community of students, teachers and alumni of the Full Sail University Web Design and Development program. Anthony Colangelo and Tyler Matthews (2011 graduates) created WDD Social to connect students throughout the different stages of the degree program. The site was created to promote the spread of industry-related content in the web community. Students are given a profile where they can share projects and articles with the group, or post publicly to promote themselves to visitors of the site. WDD Social also allows members to share upcoming industry events, both at Full Sail and in the Central Florida area.

Offering a real world project opportunity, Acts2HelpOthers, a non-profit organization whose mission is to inspire compassionate acts of kindness to help others in need, asked students in Full Sail’s Web Design & Development program  to assist them in redesigning their web presence. Joining together to take on this project, online students Keith Rosenberg and Garrett Tichy expanded it far beyond a website into a complete brand revitalization project.

Integrated with WordPress, the site gives the organization complete control over updating their own content. Combining a greater social interaction to the organization, specific content and events are also mirrored on Facebook and Twitter, allowing fans the ability to register and participate.

These two images are website comps and a mobile app mood board for XCuseMe, a mobile app and website created by students in the Web Design & Development degree program. This Radiohead concert poster was designed by Christopher Gray (Web Design & Development, current student) in the History of Visual Communications course.

This Nine Inch Nails poster was created by Rob Morrow (Web Design & Development, 2012 graduate) in the History of Visual Communications course. It was inspired by “Victorian illustrations, phrenology, and grunge.”

This DEVO poster was created by Elmer McCarty (Web Design & Development, 2011 graduate) as an assignment for the History of Visual Communications course. As the Course Director explains: “[Students] do a concert/event poster for their third project. [Elmer’s] design is inspired by Bauhaus aesthetic. He chose DEVO because he had the opportunity to work with Mark Mothersbaugh on a previous project and wanted to pay tribute to his music.”

One of the first classes students in Full Sail’s online Graphic Design, Web Design and Development, Mobile Development, Game Art, and Computer Animation degree programs take is Art History, but it’s not your typical Art History course. The curriculum was created with the designer in mind, so aspects of the class are a little bit more interactive and hands-on than what one would find in a typical history class.
