A music video created by Full Sail student Gabriel Haze was selected as the Film of the Week by mtvU’s Best Film On Campus competition. The video was made for singer/actress Elizabeth June for her song, “Freedom.”

Gabriel completed the project in early 2009 and immediately submitted it to mtvU’s Best Film on Campus site, which welcomes student filmmakers to upload their work on the web in a student filmmaker showcase format. Participants are encouraged to create profiles, compete in contests for prizes, network with other filmmakers and industry professionals, and potentially earn the title of “Best Filmmaker on Campus.”

Gabriel's video is also featured on mtvU and mtvU.com, and he will be a contender in the 2009 Best Filmmaker on Campus competition. A student film critic will review “Freedom,” and the review will appear in the critic’s college newspaper.

"Freedom" has also been accepted as an "Official Selection" of the Palm Bay 15 Minutes of Fame Festival of Short Films in Palm Bay, Florida and an "Official Selection" of the Action On Film (AOF) Festival in Pasadena, California.

Gabriel had help from a handful of other students/grads in making the video, including Autumn Brooks (Art Director, Assistant Director, Assistant Camera Operator), Carmelo Citera (Assistant Camera Operator), Kevin Roche (Music Recording/Engineering), and Cody Foltz (Camera Operator, Editor for “Freedom – Behind the Scenes.”)

Although Gabriel is a Digital Arts & Design student, he gained filmmaking skills in Full Sail's Film program, which is where he started at Full Sail. As an artist, Haze said he realized he wanted to branch into digital art – particularly motion graphics – which is why he switched to the DAD program.

“I really would just like to be a creative director in charge of an advertising company,” he says. “I went to school because I wanted to make money doing what I love. If I can be rich off of being an artist, then great – if I don’t [get rich], then at least I’m doing what I love. If I make just enough money to survive, then that’s enough for me.”
