The world of sports has always been a major branch of the entertainment industry, and as with any other entertainment field, the stars – in this case, the athletes – are the main attraction, but the infrastructure that's in place to spotlight those stars is an intricate and wide-ranging one. Teams and leagues on the amateur, collegiate, and professional level are supported by the operations, marketing, broadcast and executive-level professionals that help connect players and organizations with a wider audience, and those professionals are in higher demand than ever before.
“The sports industry is definitely a growing niche, and we felt the need to recognize that with this track of the Entertainment Business Master’s Degree,” says Pat Bishop, Program Director. “One of the key advantages to how Full Sail approaches this program is our focus on the media side of the industry. Our curriculum treats sports not just as a form of entertainment, but as a media product. From television to satellite radio to the web, our degree explores the opportunities available in the realm of media content and creation in the sports industry.”
Students will cover industry-specific concepts such as Sports Management and Operations, Legal Issues in Sports, and Sports Marketing and Sponsorships, along with other advanced business topics like Project and Team Management, Executive Leadership, Entertainment Business Finance, and Negotiation and Deal-Making. Over the course of the program, they’ll use the knowledge gained from these courses to develop and refine their own Leadership Portfolio and Business Plan Thesis to prepare them for a career – as a creative leader in an organization or as an entrepreneur – within the sports/entertainment media business.
