No Experience Necessary for Clerks II
July 21, 2006
Kevin Smith is back on the big screen this weekend, adding to the New Jersey trilogy he started in 1994 with the release of the original Clerks. Now, twelve years later, Clerks II returns with a surprising amount of the original cast. The lives of Dante, Randall, Jay, and Silent Bob, are pretty much where Clerks left them, only ten years older and none the wiser.
Meanwhile, after the booming success of Cars, it’s Monster House’s turn in the spotlight as the next big animated film to hit theaters. From producers Steven Spielberg and Robert Zemeckis, Monster House features dazzling motion capture animation and the talents of many stars, including Steve Buscemi, Maggie Gyllenhaal, and Napolean Dynamite’s Jon Heder.
Also new this weekend, from the master of creepy suspense, M. Night Shyamalan, is thriller Lady in the Water. Staring Paul Giamatti of Sideways fame, Lady in the Water is a bedtime story-turned-bad meant to make you think twice about what’s lurking in that apartment complex swimming pool.
Finally, using some of her Kill Bill extreme fighting techniques, Uma Thurman returns to theaters this weekend in a superhero comedy, My Super Ex-Girlfriend. Starring with Luke Wilson, Thurman plays a superhero named G-Girl who, when dumped by her boyfriend, vows to make his life a living hell with her superpowers. The film is directed by Ivan Reitman, the producer behind comedy favorites including Old School and Road Trip.
