July is Hot for Summer Movies

July 6, 2007
It’s already been a busy season for blockbusters—but hits like Spider-Man 3, Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End, and Live Free or Die Hard are only the beginning for summer ’07.

Transformers, the big budget adaptation of the classic 80s’ toy series, kicked off the month. This latest action epic from director Michael Bay stars Shia LeBeouf, Megan Fox, Tyrese Gibson, and Jon Voight.

Next up is the family-friendly Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. This latest addition to the ongoing wizard series follows Harry, Rupert, and Hermione as they prepare for a showdown against an increasingly powerful Voldemort—the film hits screens on July 11.

Comic releases Hairspray and I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry (on July 20) are sure to add some levity to an action-packed season. Hairspray, a direct adaptation of the hit Broadway musical, is the second film that’s part of John Waters’ homage to the 1950’s.

The animated epic The Simpsons Movie, will finally bring one of America’s favorite families to the big screen at the end of the month. The film, which comes nearly eighteen years after the show’s network debut, features the vocal talents of all Springfield’s well-known regulars.

Other notable films debuting this month include the Robin Williams comedy License to Wed, as well as the horror entry Captivity, and the buzz-worthy Lindsay Lohan film I Know Who Killed Me.
