Full Sail University is proud to announce the launches of three new degree programs: the Creative Writing Master of Fine Arts and the Music Production Bachelor of Science are the newest additions to Full Sail's online degree programs, while the new Recording Engineering Associate of Science expands our on-campus offerings. All three degrees will begin classes in February 2010.

The new 12-month Creative Writing Master of Fine Arts (CWMFA) Online Degree Program will explore the art of storytelling and the language of different mediums, such as film, television, animation, and gaming. Graduates will be taught the necessary skills to meet the high demand for creative writers in the entertainment media industry. Throughout the program, students will learn the writing process from concept to completion and apply the courses’ techniques to projects.

The classes will concentrate on developing leadership, project-management, and research skills. For this program, the thesis project will have the students producing an e-portfolio with a presentation of a finished script, along with the supporting materials that led to its creation. This project will be in the media genre of the student’s choosing of film, gaming, or animation.

“What makes this Creative Writing MFA program so exciting and appealing is that students will learn to write for a variety of distribution channels, and not just book publishing,” says Program Director Jon Craig. “This could include working with animated films, the gaming industry, or even short- and feature-length films. We don’t want to limit or isolate writers to just one platform.“

The Music Production Bachelor of Science (MPBS) is designed to give students an understanding of music theory and composition, as well as the ability to engineer and market their creative works from their own home studios. Throughout the 32-month program, students will interact through Full Sail’s unique online platform, collaborating on a variety of deliverables within several musical genres and styles as part of their coursework.

Classes will focus on music composition, arranging, theory, history, and ear training, as well as the technical recording process using the same professional software used in studios throughout the music business. They’ll also develop their own Digital Portfolio containing all of the work they’ve created in their courses, bolstered by a supporting website.

“The career opportunities for commercial musicians are growing every day, and with the Music Production Bachelor of Science Degree Program, we’re able to provide students with the right set of tools to help them find success in their field,” says Program Director Robert Raines. “The power of the technology contained in this LaunchBox package” – which provides students with a MacBook Pro, Apple Logic, ProTools, input-output hardware and other necessary tools, all at a deep institutional discount – “combined with the program’s comprehensive curriculum, really provides students with a unique educational experience, and one that will really help them to leverage themselves as complete and professional musicians.”

The new Recording Engineering Associate of Science (REAS) degree program provides students with an understanding of the fundamentals of music recording and audio production. Built upon the core concepts of our Recording Arts Bachelor of Science Degree, this campus program covers sound fundamentals, recording and mixing techniques, and the world of postproduction. Students learn by working with the same gear used in professional recording studios throughout the industry for music production and audio for film, television, video games, and more.
