Myths About Online Education
-
Learning online is boring.
- We took this concern to heart and built an online learning environment from scratch, to make sure that it could handle our dynamic curriculum, connect you to your professors and peers, and keep you actively engaged in your education. Throughout your time at Full Sail Online, you’ll make full use of your MacBook Pro’s* hardware and software capabilities, as you work on media-based projects and take part in interactive live class sessions and video presentations.
We also have a production team that works every day to create engaging content to support your coursework – interviews with professionals in your industry, animations that illustrate key concepts, video lectures, and more.
-
I won’t feel connected to my professors.
- Our educators have flexible office hours when you can ask questions and get help with your work. You can reach them by phone, video conference, live chat, or email, giving you the same one-on-one contact you’d get if you were on Full Sail’s campus.
-
I won’t feel connected to other students.
- Our curriculum is based around networking and group projects – that’s why we built an online learning environment that connects you to your classmates. You’ll work together via email, video chat, and instant messaging, giving the kind of personal connection you need to work together as a group.
Many courses also have optional live study sessions every week, so you can interact with your classmates and professors like you would on a college campus.
-
Online schools are inferior to traditional schools.
- We don’t think they have to be. We’ve been innovating in education for nearly 30 years, and our online degrees take full advantage of everything we’ve learned. The classes you take online are the same kinds of classes our campus students take. You learn the same type of information, use the same materials, do similar projects, and learn from many of the same educators.
Over the past three decades, we’ve gotten plenty of kudos for the way we do things; that’s why, when we introduced Full Sail Online, we made sure that our online students would get the same unique education as our campus students.
-
An online school won’t really challenge you.
- To succeed as a professional, you need classes that challenge you and help you grow. Since our online programs are built using same methods as our campus programs, they use a unique combination of methods to teach you key concepts – project work, collaboration, visual media, lectures, reading, and more. It’s a formula that we use for every one of our degree programs, and one that has helped thousands of graduates develop careers doing what they love.
Just like with a campus degree, you’ll need to set aside time for studying, projects, and tests – the difference is that with an online degree, it’s easier to schedule that time so that it works with your life. But you’ll still have due dates, scheduled activities, and other elements to make sure that you get the most out of your education.
-
There’s a difference in quality between online and on-campus educators.
- Every teacher at Full Sail University is carefully selected based on their real-world experience and educational background, and they’re all located on campus, which allows them to work with each other to give you a more cohesive education.
They also work with our advisory boards – groups of industry pros who understand what you need to know to get a job or advance your career in your specific field. Together, they make sure that the curriculum you experience in Full Sail Online is always current and relevant to your future career.
-
You need to be a computer expert to take an online degree.
- It’s true that you need to know some basic computer skills (email, internet use, word processing) to go to an online school, but we understand that not everyone is a computer expert. That’s why we designed our online learning platform from scratch to be easy to use and easy to understand. You’ll have every tool you need right at your fingertips, so you don’t have to spend a lot of time learning how to get around the software.
If you do have questions or need some help getting up to speed, Full Sail Online Support offers a number of tutorials, some developed in-house and some by Apple, to assist you with learning your computer and software.
-
Online schools don’t help you find a job or develop your career.
