Susan Rose, a Full Sail graduate, knows all too well how the expression of creativity can emerge through the art of stage lighting. “I design shows and create moods for music. It’s a very creative field,” she says.
Originally, Susan pursued a singing career in Nashville, but her path eventually veered off course to a career in lighting. While working on a gig with the country music group Alabama, Susan began a fascination with the Wholehog console programming system designed to program stage lighting. “I figure if I can’t perform on stage, I can still perform with lights. It’s another way of expressing creativity for me. It’s such a rush for me when I come up with and create powerful looks.”
In addition to her work with Alabama, Susan has worked on lighting for television shows including a Barry Manilow special, Pay Per View wrestling, TNN programs, and ESPN ice shows, to name a few. Susan feels fortunate to have been involved in so many shows over the years and knows that some of the opportunities she’s been afforded have been because of her initiative to always learn.
