[UPDATE June 24, 2015: We’d like to congratulate Computer Animation graduate Rusty Currier, who was selected as an Honorable Mention for CG Student Awards VFX/Animation Student of the Year.]

The Autodesk-sponsored CG Student Awards is an annual event recognizing excellence in computer graphics from students and recent graduates around the world. Those who submit work for consideration are given the opportunity to have their work reviewed and ranked by an impressive panel of industry experts. Winners share a prize pool worth a total of $360,000 and are provided with a platform to network with professional digital artists around the globe.

This year, we’re proud to announce that Full Sail has been included in the CG Student Awards’ list of Top 20 Schools for 2015, and three Full Sailors have been chosen as individual finalists.

Computer Animation graduates Rusty Currier (2014) and Andrew Ford (2015) were selected as a finalists in both the VFX/Animation and Bootcamp Internship Placement categories. Rusty’s submission consisted of three pieces – two still lifes and one environment scene – originally created for his Computer Animation Degree Program portfolio. “It was important to me to create something that was not only photorealistic, but something visually appealing, that people would enjoy looking at,” he explains.

Andrew’s submission, created for his final graduating animation demo reel, showcases facial and body animation, lip sync, and game cycles. “I spent most of my time on the acting and polishing, trying to push more than just movement,” says Andrew. “It took me five consecutive months of hard work to achieve my demo reel.”

Current online Computer Animation student Spencer Fitch was selected as a finalist in the People’s Choice Award category. “The work I submitted was a culmination of pieces I’ve completed during my time at Full Sail,” says Spencer. “The Rustic Kitchen scene is my latest work and will be part of my final portfolio when I graduate in October. I feel that my submissions weigh heavily in my representation as a lighting artist, but also show my knowledge in texturing, modeling, and look development.”
