Mad Max: Fury Road, the fourth film in writer/director George Miller’s post-apocalyptic franchise that began back in 1979, is scheduled for official worldwide release today.

In the film, Max Rockatansky (Tom Hardy) joins rogue heroine Imperator Furiosa (Charlize Theron) as she attempts to rescue a group of young women from the tyrannical king Immortan Joe. Max, Furiosa, and the women – held captive to breed the warlord’s offspring  – race across the barren Wasteland with an army of bad guys in hot, sandy pursuit. The cinematic result? A fast-paced action feature filled with explosions, gut-wrenching chase scenes, and strong feminist undertones.

The film, budgeted at around $140 million, was shot in the Namibian desert with real stunt people – including a few Cirque de Soleil gymnasts – and real speeding vehicles. It also features the work of a vast production crew – over 1,000 total.

According to the Boston Herald: “The magnificence of below-the-line contributions can hardly be overstated, particularly the outrageously acrobatic fight choreography and the seamless visual-effects work.”

We were proud to see a handful of talented Full Sail grads among that long list of crew names.
