Full Sail Digital Arts & Design instructor Dan Walker teamed up with Maitland’s Dommerich Elementary School to create an end of the year hype video to send graduating 5th graders off to middle school in style.

Aptly titled “Blast Off to Middle School,” the video sends the Dommerich administration and teachers into space through the use of a green screen as well as drone footage over the school to give the appearance of a real launch.

“We met with the principal and PTA parents to go over the idea,” says Dan. “I then went back to Full Sail to start working on the storyboards. It was then presented to the PTA and principal to approve.”

Dan turned to his Digital Arts & Design students for help with this project, many of whom excitedly jumped at the opportunity to get involved.

Students had to meet a certain standard before being selected to help with this project. “I choose students based on talent, professional attitude, and overall hunger to do more than just what’s required,” Dan says.

With one student heading up the storyboards, and a few others working on editing and compositing, Dan had just the team he needed to create a unique video for the graduating 5th graders.
