Students and Staff Compete in Fundraising Basketball Tournament

The 3-on-3 International Student Society Basketball Tournament raised money for the International Student Society and the Full Sail student pantry.

For the second year in a row, Full Sail’s International Student Society and Film Production master’s  grad Reginald Gibson joined forces to host the 3-on-3 International Student Society Basketball Tournament fundraiser. This year, the event was held at the Orlando Magic Recreation Center near Full Sail's campus.

Without football or basketball or any of the other sports that other colleges have, there's always that need for [Full Sail] students to be able to play together and compete."

Twelve student teams and six staff teams showed up to the recreation center on Saturday morning to dribble, pass, and shoot hoops to help raise money for the International Student Society and the Full Pantry, Full Sail’s on-campus food pantry. The Staff and Cultural Development department was one of the event’s largest sponsors, along with financial coach Maria Rovira and Affordable One Insurance.

“Without football or basketball or any of the other sports that other colleges have, there's always that need for [Full Sail] students to be able to play together and compete,” begins Sandi Foncannon, the International Student Coordinator. “There was a trophy for the first-place student team, a trophy for the first-place staff team, and then there was an overall winner trophy.”

“The staff team prevailed. I was very surprised. It was so much fun,” she adds.

Because the event was open to students in all degree programs, it also served as a networking opportunity for students – and a way to get to know Full Sail staff better.

Spectators could cheer on their favorite players, enjoy snacks from the concession stand, and buy raffle tickets for prizes like an iPad. The 3-on-3 International Student Society Basketball Tournament fundraiser raised approximately $850 this year, and the funds will be split evenly between the International Student Society and the Full Pantry.
