An alternative to more conventional Hollywood award gatherings, the recent MTV Movie Awards celebrated some of the biggest films from the previous year with a collection of non-traditional categories ranging from Best Cast to Best Kiss. Among the films in contention at the 2013 ceremony, we were happy to see that five of the winning projects featured the work of nearly 100 Full Sail alumni.

Chief among these was last summer’s box office smash The Avengers, which took the top prize of Movie of the Year, as well as Best Fight and Best Villain for Tom Hiddleston’s performance as Loki. The film tied with Silver Linings Playbook for the most celebrated release of the night, and was produced with the efforts of 56 Full Sail graduates.

Alumni also worked on The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2, which saw Taylor Lautner win for Best Shirtless Performance. This was the last film in the Twilight series, and included contributions from 11 grads, including Film program graduate and Full Sail Hall of Fame inductee Steve Cainas as production coordinator.

Best Hero went to Martin Freeman in his role as Bilbo Baggins in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. Another Hall of Fame inductee, David Farmer, worked on the first in Peter Jackson’s Hobbit trilogy as a sound designer, having previously handled the same role for the director’s Lord of the Rings films.

A pair of recent Oscar-winners also added some new statues to their tallies. Quentin Tarantino’s winter hit Django Unchained took the prize for Best WTF Moment, and featured a group of 10 grads in various production roles. Finally, Life of Pi took Best Scared-As-S**t Performance for lead Suraj Sharma. The book adaptation saw contributions from nine Full Sail alumni who worked across its audio and visual effects teams.

We’d like to congratulate all of the Full Sail grads that put their efforts into these 2013 MTV Movie Award winners, as well as additional nominees like SkyfallArgo, and Zero Dark Thirty.
