A few Full Sail faculty and staff members headed to Rio De Janeiro, Brazil earlier this month to attend Festival do Rio 2013, Latin America’s largest film festival. Rick Ramsey, Education Director of Visual Arts, and Anne Watters, Film Program Director, were both invited to lead their own separate workshops during the festival. Rick spoke about filmmaking with handheld portable devices (like iPhones and iPads), while Anne’s presentation – “Constructed Reality: Storytelling for Reality Television” – explored how the different genres of reality television construct and tell stories in various ways.
“I think it was really remarkable how large and extensive the film festival was,” says Anne. “We had a really good turnout [for our workshops].”
Rick (pictured, right) was excited to connect with other industry contacts and local high school students. “The festival was pretty amazing,” he says. “They did the whole thing in this enormous warehouse and just sectioned it off with portable, sound-reinforced walls. They built their own theaters and lecture rooms. It was pretty incredible.”
